J. McWilliams, A Pioneer Resident.

Passes Away

  J. McWilliams, a pioneer resident of 

Winnebago county, died about 4:15

o'clock Monday afternoon after a lin-

gering illness.  He passed away at his

home, 106 Oregon street, at the age of 

eighty-five years.

  Deceased was born in Edinboro, Erie

county, Pennsylvania, May 8 1819. He

came to Wisconsin in 1847, locating in 

Jefferson county near Fort Atkinson

and engaged in farming.  In 1849 he

came to Winnebago county and settled 

in the town Nekimi. In 1864 he

moved to this city and has been resi-

dent here ever since.  He engaged in

the grocery business and followed that

business until about five years ago

when at the age of eighty years he re-

tired from active business.  He was 

married in Erie county, Penn., in 1841

to Amanda Church, who died in Win-

nebago county in 1856.  Mr McWilliams 

was wedded to Miss Maria L. Belknap

in Oshkosh in May 1857. The Children 

by the first marriage were Robert N.,

killed in the battle of Shiloh while a

member of the Eighteenth Wisconsin 

infantry: Amelia, now Mrs. D.K. Gor-

don of Tacoma. Wash.: Euthelia, who

resides here; Eugene of Chicago and

Amanda who became Mrs. E. F. An-

derson and died a number of years 

ago.  The children by the second mar-

riage were Lanore, now Mrs. Frank L.

Dyer of this city; Lenora deceased.

Herbert, of this city. Mr. McWilliams

was the last surviving member of the

family of John McWilliams.

 The funeral services will be held

Thursday afternoon at two o'clock at 

the residence on Oregon street. Inter-

ment will occur in Ellenwood ceme-

tery.  Rev. Mr Ayers officiating.

Sunday’s Obituary – Martin S Belknap

This is an obituary for my 3^rd great grandfather Martin S Belknap, he is the spouse of Betsey Ann Belknap (nee Bristol).  

          M. S Belknap Dead                           

A Former Resident of the Town of

   Algoma Dies in Minnesota.

  Word was received in this city Sat-

urday announcing the death at  Big-

low, Minn., M.S. Belknap for-

merly of the town of Algoma.  The

deceased was about eighty-six years

old and was a highly respected resi-

dent of the town of Algoma for many

years.   The family moved to Minne-

sota about eighteen years ago.  Mr

Belknap was the father of Mrs. J.

W. McWilliams of this city.  The re-

mains will be brought here for burial.

                  Short Notes                                 

                        

   The remains of Martin S. Belknap

arrived in the city last evening and

were taken to the home of Mrs. J.

McWilliams on Oregon Street where

the funeral was held this mooring at

ten o’clock.  The remains were

interred at Elmwood cemetery.

Sunday Obituary – Betsey Ann Belknap

This is an obituary for my 3^rd great grandmother Betsey Ann Belknap (nee Bristol).  Betsey was the daughter of Justus Bristol and Catherine Lockwood born 16 November, 1814.  She married Martin Seymour Belknap in 1831 in New York.  One of her 11 children was my 2^nd great grandfather Thomas Jefferson Belknap.

 Mrs. Betsey Ann Belknapp died this

Morning of general debility at her home

106 Oregon street.  She was the mother of Mrs. Job Mcwiilliams, with whom she resided.  The interment will take place at two o’clock Monday afternoon
